The newsletter category reports on Tarkington Tower news that would appear in a newsletter if we published a newsletter on a weekly or monthly basis.

This is a significant maintenance item as new trolleys had to be designed and manufactured specifically for our building. The trolleys fit into a track that is integral to the building and is what the window washers hook up to for their scaffold. The window washing company called our attention to the trolleys because the company believe they were so worn and rusted that they were dangerous for their staff and they refused to wash our windows until these were replaced.
Four trolleys were manufactured for Tarkington Tower, which is fewer than there were originally. It was determined that with a small change to the track we could get by with fewer, saving our Home Owners Association significant maintenance dollars.
The picture below shows the condition of a couple of the old trolleys.

Since I own a "J" unit I had a birds eye view of all the activity and I took advantage of that view to memorialize the activity. If you're interested in the day by day progress, well you are in luck.
The pictures (click on the thumbnail picture) were taken each day there was either significant progress or when there was something interesting going on. If you go through the pictures you'll even get to see Debbie and Tony raising heck with the contractor. Enjoy.
Yes! The work is finally complete. A new roof has been installed and word has it that the roof has a 30 year life, hope we're all here to see that life span proven to be true. The "neat" thing about this roof is that it isn't dark but is a light in color and as a result, sun reflecting. That means the higher floors should have fewer problems maintaining a cool home in the dead of summer.
For the last year we've heard runblings of changes planned fo rthe park across the street (40th) from our home. If you are interested in reading about the different plans, well now is your chance. I've downloaded a document from "iindy.gov" to give you the opportunity to review the "master plan" at you leisure.

Note that if you want to track any changes that might be made in the future, this is the link to indy.gov where the original document can be found.

During the February 2014 board meeting the board authorized the Communication Committee to go forward with a plan to make a WIFI connection available in the common areas: lobby, Terrace Room and the pool.
This will be a cost effective approach designed to support moderate usage with a capacity of 6Mbps.
The weather finally cooperated with our need to replace the roof. During a break in our wonderful winter weather the contractor was able to again bring in the crane. This time they were able to remove the trash accumulated as a result of the previous work and will now be ableto complete the work. The accumulation of trash had to be removed because it was sitting on the area that had not yet been replaced and had to be removed for work to continue.
You may or may not know it, but we live in an area of Indianapolis now known as Midtown. The name for the area came into use roughly 3 years ago and is now in common use. Plans are being discussed for the furture of Midtown that are of importance to us all.
The link below is a link to a "working planning" document commissioned by Midtown Indianapolis, Inc. Fascinating reading with information not readily available elsewhere. Reading this document or at least scanning it will give you a much greater appreciation for where we live and the potential we have.
